POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Needle Loom Team Leader, the position performs a variety of needle loom functions. These major duties include but are not limited to; transporting raw materials throughout the warehouse, setting up looms or other processing machines, reading operating instructions and preparing loom pattern mechanisms, operating looms to needle punch fiber into textile fabrics or products, repairing minor mechanical problems such as broken or defective needles and completing major cleans on the machinery. The remaining points are inserted under the duties and responsibilities section.

Candidate must be comfortable with shift work. This will consist of 4 weeks on day shifts and 4 weeks on nights.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Retrieves and transports raw materials required to produce correct products by operating the forklift and using other powered equipment and lifting devices
  • Places raw materials into the feedbox
  • Sets up and feeds the needle line machines as well as blends fiber according to instructions
  • Adjusts machine performance on material by observing machine operation; detecting malfunctions; adjusting settings
  • Observes process and continuously checks fabrics or products for defects and verifies quality and efficiency requirements
  • Investigates and troubleshoots equipment stoppages and notifies the team leader if there are any assembly, safety or quality issues
  • Notifies team leader or maintenance of mechanical malfunctions
  • Transports and stores finished products and packaging materials throughout the plant by operating the forklift and using other powered equipment and lifting devices
  • Records all production information on the production and quality reports
  • Performs basic maintenance, repair and cleaning duties of the equipment to include; cleaning fiber from pulleys, belts, chains and boards, using air hoses to blow fiber from under machinery, replacing side panels and screwing bolts
  • Ensure a safe environment at all times
  • Maintains complete knowledge of and complies with company and departmental policies, procedures and standards
  • Maintains client and company confidence by keeping information confidential and secure
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with team members and management in a team environment
  • Sets-up and organizes individual work area with designated supplies, forms and resource materials while maintaining cleanliness at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent if studied from a different Country or Province)
  • 0-3 months experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as cohesively with employees and managers as part of a team
  • Problem solving skills in order to resolve conflicts and problems
  • Accuracy skills required when programming needle boards
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure with simultaneous deadlines
  • Health and Safety aware to minimize risk of injury from equipment.
