TECHNICAL FABRICS

NONWOVEN META-ARAMID (NOMEX®)

Meta-Aramid (Nomex®) is a strong, flame-resistant, high-temperature fabric used in everything from safety apparel to industrial air filtration and beyond.

SHIELD PEOPLE AND EQUIPMENT FROM EXTREME HEAT

Meta-Aramid (Nomex®) is a strong, flame-resistanthigh-temperature fiber that can resist ignition. It offers good resistance to a broad range of chemicals and laundering. It is categorized as an Aramid fiber (short for aromatic polyamide) and is closely related to para-aramid (Kevlar®).

Just like its cousin, Para-Aramid, industrial uses for Meta-Aramid (Nomex®) are vast. They include protective apparel, insulation, heat shielding for people and equipment, and reinforcements for automotive components, Nomex® has been successfully tried and employed worldwide in modern industrial applications.

Albarrie utilizes DuPont’s Nomex® brand or generic meta-aramid nonwoven technical fabric for thermal protective apparel, acoustic insulation, industrial air filtration, electrical insulation, and sublimation printing. Albarrie also uses meta-aramid for its unique Defender Series Fullback Rollers, Roller Covers, Spacer Bar Sleeves, Endless Conveyor Belts, Soft or Hard Pads and Heat Protective Tape. Meta-Aramid is a key ingredient in our heat protective tape for conveyance and material handling applications. Albarrie produces Meta-Aramid fabrics in weights between 7 and 59 oz/yd² (235-2000 m/g²), in thicknesses between 0.05 and 0.5in. (1-12 mm).

HIGH-TEMPERATURE PROTECTION FOR PEOPLE

Meta-aramid’s inherently flame and high-temperature-resistant properties are where this fabric’s performance shines. It has excellent chemical resistance to hydrocarbons and organic solvents and continues to function under stress over short periods without losing strength. It’s soft yet has the same strength as nylon and polyester at room temperature, making it easy to work with during manufacture. These performance properties have made meta-aramid a critical component in protective clothing.

Today, more than three million firefighters worldwide are protected by turnout gear, station wear, and accessories made of Nomex® for its unique combination of flame protection, durability, and mobility. Meta-aramids protect people from the heat of flash fires and electric arcs and withstands molten metal splatter in welding applications.

META-ARAMID GOES BEYOND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

Meta-aramid is a non-conductive technical textile providing superior protection in electrical applications. Motors, generators, transformers, and other electrical equipment manufacturers have counted on this fabric as the standard for electrical insulation.

It’s also a popular fabric choice for industrial air filtration baghouses, where high temperatures are present. Although rated moderate for resisting acids and alkalis, meta-aramid has a reduced filter life when gasses containing sulfur dioxide or trioxide are filtered. Its resistance to acids is better than nylon but not as good as polyester, except where high temperatures are present. Albarrie recommends a maximum continuous operating temperature of up to 428°F (220°C). Although, it can still handle a surge up to 450°F (230 °C) without degradation. Industries from asphalt and cement plants to chemical and steel use filter media made of meta-aramid fibers.

VIRGIN FIBERS

Albarrie uses only 100% virgin fibers.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Albarrie inspects and tests each order as part of our Quality Assurance program, providing datasheets for weight, thickness, permeability, Mullen burst, and tensile strength according to ASTM standards.
